Chak De India may have released one and a half years back but its director Shimit Amin is yet to get his next film on floors. While it is confirmed that Shimit, who had started his career as a director with a gritty Ab Tak Chappan, will be making his next with Yash Raj Films, there has been uncertainty around the cast of the film.
While rumour mongers have already announced the cast with Ranbir Kapoor and Imran Khan sharing the frame, this is far from true.
Says a source attached to the film, “These are all baseless rumours. Mischief makers just make up a cast and start announcing it all over. Now they want the world to believe that this yet untitled film would bring Ranbir Kapoor and Imran Khan together. Agreed that both are hot in the industry circle today and bringing them together would be a casting coup of sorts. However, it isn’t happening for sure with this film.”
Monica Bhattacharya, Yash Raj Films’ spokesperson, too sets the record straight, “Shimit’s next stars Ranbir Kapoor and that’s the only truth to the story. When people write something, they don’t even bother contacting the right channels. So let me put this on record that Imran Khan is not a part of this film.”
Apparently, the search for the leading lady of the film is still on with no name being finalized opposite Ranbir. “That’s true”, says Monica, “Yash Raj Films is yet to close on the heroine for the film.” She isn’t willing to divulge much on the film’s plot either. “There isn’t anything that can be declared now. When the time is right (with Yash Raj Films releasing their yearly calendar), we would know what this film is all about from both the genre and the plot perspective.”
Talking about the production house’s calendar for 2009, it is surprising that the dates for their next few films are yet to be announced.
“Yash Raj Films started the trend of announcing not just the title and the cast of the film but also the exact date. They have always stuck to it as well. Yes, they have delayed it a little this year but that’s ok. They don’t want to announce any random date and then rollback at a later stage. You would soon hear from them, at least before the first quarter of 2009 comes to an end”, says a source who wished to be unnamed.
However, it is confirmed that Shimit Amin’s film would soon go on floors. “The shooting would begin soon and the film would be released before the end of 2009?, signs off Monica.

Ranbir Kapoor Ranbir Kapoor is set to play a confused NRI in a film to be directed by Mani Ratnam. Even as Ratnam shoots for his film ‘Raavana’ with Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai in the south, the talented director has zeroed down on the script for his next. Written by Rensil D’Silva, the movie is based on the theme of identity crisis faced by an NRI. Ranbir Kapoor has been approached to play the role of a young, outgoing Indian in London who is torn between his Indian values and western lifestyle. It’s a story of coming of age of a youth trying to get a clear perspective of life. Ranbir is in contention for the role and he has, in all likelihood, already bagged it. Other starcast of the untitled film is yet to be finalized. Ranbir presently has two interesting projects in his hands – Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani and Wake Up Sid .
Shooting of Ratnam’s film is likely to begin in the middle of 2009.

Ranbir Kapoor has decided to give up smoking as a b’day gift to girlfriend Deepika. Deepika Padukone couldn’t have had a better beginning to 2009 and her birthday yesterday. A source close to Deepika says, “Deepika didn’t like Ranbir’s smoking habit. As an advance birthday gift, he promised her that he would give up smoking for her. From January 1 this year, after being a smoker for years, Ranbir has completely quit smoking. Lots of people tried to make him quit but they didn’t succeed. Now he has given it up for Deepika.” The actress is proud of the fact that the Kapoor lad has not lighted up in the last five days.”
The source continues, “The best thing is that she never nagged him about smoking. She accepted him the way he was but Ranbir realised that she didn’t like his habit, as she was always uncomfortable when he smoked around her. So he made a resolution to quit. It’s a big decision for him and even his mom (Neetu Kapoor) doesn’t know that her son has kicked the butt.”When quizzed about being together Deepika says, “I don’t like talking about my personal life. All I will say is that Ranbir keeps me very happy and secure.” Deepika had a quiet birthday with her parents yesterday. She went to Siddhivinayak Temple followed by a quiet dinner with boyfriend Ranbir in the evening.
“My parents and sister was with me last week during Christmas and New Year’s but my sister had to attend a tournament, so she flew off on Saturday. I never like celebrating my birthdays much. But I do make it a point to go to Siddhivinayak. It’s been a great year for me and 2009 looks even more promising.She adds, “It’s been a wonderful birthday this year. I couldn’t have asked for two better gifts. Also I am leaving for the premieres of Chandni Chowk To China all over the world. Nikhil Advani has taken the film to a whole new level. The most exciting thing is that the film will be premiered at the Warner Brothers Village in Los Angeles.”
